4 kV passive oscilloscope probes for high-speed power electronics testing
The PMK PHVX Series is designed for accurate high-voltage measurements in advanced power electronics applications, including switching power supplies, IGBTs, Si devices, and SiC power semiconductors. With a 4000 V input rating, 100:1 attenuation, very low input capacitance below 3 pF, and a compact form factor, PHVX probes are built for engineers who need high signal fidelity in demanding test environments.
The PHVX Series was developed to meet the growing demands of modern power electronics design. It is especially well suited for applications such as low-side VDS measurements in double-pulse testing, as well as measurements on SiC devices, IGBTs, thyristors, and fast high-voltage diodes. Its combination of low capacitive loading and high bandwidth helps preserve waveform integrity when measuring fast switching edges.
With less than 3 pF input capacitance, PHVX probes minimize capacitive loading on the device under test. This makes them particularly valuable when working with fast-switching semiconductors and sensitive high-voltage nodes, where excessive probe loading can distort the waveform and reduce measurement confidence.
PHVX probes feature a female signal input connector designed for 0.64 mm (0.025 in) square-pin adapters. By using accessories such as needle tips or pogo tips, the probe can be adapted easily to different measurement points and fixture setups. This gives users a high degree of flexibility for both development and production testing.
PHVX probes are intended for use in protected test environments and are not designed for handheld operation. For safety reasons, they are used as permanently attached voltage-measurement components within manual or fully automated test systems.
The PHVX Series combines a compact mechanical design with a broad accessory ecosystem for safe and repeatable high-voltage contacting. Replaceable spring tips and optional accessories support a wide range of applications while maintaining high signal fidelity. A particularly useful feature is the 360° rotatable ground ring, which allows direct contacting to 5.08 mm pitch square-pin headers without introducing additional capacitive loading to the DUT. Additional soldering adapters, BNC adapters, and related accessories further simplify safe integration into test setups.

The optional readout function uses a physical pin in the BNC adapter to automatically communicate the attenuation factor to the oscilloscope, enabling correct scaling directly on the instrument display.
Read-Out (RO) in our probes is a physical pin, positioned in the BNC adapter. This read-out pin allows automatic adjustment of the oscilloscope's settings, like scaling, based on the probe's attenuation factor so that the read out on the probe is correct.
