The Power Over Fiber (POF) Adapter is designed specifically for the FireFly® Series, taking its functionality to the next level. With this adapter, continuous 24/7 operation is possible without ever worrying about battery life again.
The POF adapter integrates seamlessly with all existing FireFly® probes and is incredibly easy to use. Simply remove the battery compartment lid and replace the battery with the adapter. The galvanic isolation, electrical performance, and form factor of the FireFly® probe remain unchanged.
Upgrading from a battery to the POF adapter introduces only one key difference: instead of a single fiber-optic cable, the FireFly® probe head now has two. One transmits signals—just like before—connecting the probe head to the FireFly® IB board. The second, running from the battery compartment to the POF adapter base station, powers the probe head while maintaining full galvanic isolation.

FireFly® System with POF: Setup and Key Components
A FireFly® test and measurement setup with POF adapter typically includes:
- the FireFly® system,
- the (external) POF adapter,
- an (external) power supply, and
- an (external) oscilloscope.
The oscilloscope and the power supply are connected directly to the grid.
The FireFly® system and the FireFly® POF adapter each connect to one power supply power channel. This provides power to the FireFly® interface board (IB) and the FireFly® POF base station.
From the FireFly® IB, a fiber-optic cable runs to the probe head, establishing a signal transmission at full galvanic isolation (red lines).
From the POF base station, a fiber-optic cable runs to the battery compartment of the FireFly® probe head, establishing a power supply at full galvanic isolation (red lines).

Select Power Supply for the FireFly® POF Adapter
Not included in the FireFly® POF Adapter's scope of delivery. A power supply is needed to power the POF Adapter. If you already own a FireFly® with a power supply, you can use one of the power channels to power the POF Adapter.
